People gravitate to the term “organic” believing it is better than products artificially produced; in the case of your skin, there’s nothing man, with all the wonders of science, has come up with to equal it in a form that’s ideally suited to its function as a miracle garment that's soft, pliable, strong, waterproof, and self-repairing. Skin, being alive, is made of countless thin sheets of flat, stacked cells containing nerves, blood vessels, hair follicles, glands, and sensory receptors. Medical research has discovered that every minute 30,000-40,000 dead skin cells fall from our body meaning that approximately every month, we grow a whole new layer of skin cells! So it’s only “natural” that we should give our hardworking “miracle garment” the best care we can and put the most thought into what we apply to it.

Organic Skin Needs Organic Skincare
Some of the more impressive facts about our organic skin are:
  • You can have 20 or more square feet of adult skin’ that’s about the size of a blanket.
  • You’re going to shed approximately 40 pounds of skin over your lifetime.
  • Over a million microscopic dust mites, the minute critters residing on your mattress and pillows that chomp on your dead skin cells, fell off you last night!
So why organic skincare? You’ve undoubtedly come across this topic in almost every beauty magazine, TV ad and health discussion nowadays but what does that mean to you? Well, since your skin is certainly 100% organic in its composition, why wouldn’t you want your skincare product completely free of synthetic ingredients by containing 100% natural ingredients, 95% per cent of its plant ingredients derived from organic agriculture, not tested on animals, and free of artificial ingredients such as GMOs, parabens, preservatives and colorings.

Most worrisome to medical scientists these days are the many cases appearing that exhibit the effects of “cosmetic pollution” on women’s bodies; this recent phenomenon remains as unknown and mysterious as the bodily processes the toxic chemical ingredients found in many popular personal care products have the potential to disrupt. This goes beyond a product’s fashion desirability, price, status and trendiness into actual human safety! So as mentioned above, “keeping it organic” with a trusted and proven natural skin care product can be a way to give you and your skin health and peace of mind.

Organic Skincare’s Increasing Advantages
The FDA does not permit the makers of organic products to claim that they are better than their chemical counterparts are. However, there are many advantages to using organic skincare products, the most prominent being that you can spare your skin any side effects of products when they’re used for a very long time, as well as the fact that organic skincare seems best suited for delicate skin that seem to invite allergic reactions from less natural products.

For example, you’ll frequently see skin care products that are labeled “hypoallergenic.” This term implies that these products are less likely to cause allergic reactions than other types of skin care products and that these products will be gentler or even safer for the skin than those other products. However, there are no firm standards; any company can make its own determination of what those words mean. There’s lots of products that claim to be "safer for sensitive skin," yet they contain problematic ingredients, such as fragrances, camphor, alcohol, and myriad others known to cause skin reactions. Organic skin care products on the whole, if properly formulated, certainly offer much less likelihood of these kind of reactions but it behooves you to investigate any skin care product’s possible allergic properties by testing it on a small area of your skin.

It’s exciting and encouraging to see heightened interest and medical study into plants and their healing properties, even though the West’s strong tradition with herbal medicine gradually disappeared when manufacturing methods of synthesizing plant extracts came into being and chemical drugs could be patented, resulting in high profits for manufacturers and reducing the formulation and promotion of botanic skin-healing remedies. This still, unfortunately, prevails. So while organic skin care products have greater potential for effective healing of damaged skin, again, when such is claimed by any skin care product, organic or otherwise, investigate it carefully, so that you can hope to realistically realize the true benefits of an organic skin care product.
